Ways to Protect Your Business from Cyberattacks
For small to medium-sized businesses, the increase of cyberattacks has become a huge threat. The Insurance Bureau of Canada states that over the last year, cyberattacks have increased for Canadian organizations by 99%!
Cyberattacks can cost organizations thousands of dollars, putting them in a tight spot financially. While there are a ton of statistics that showcase the ins and outs of cyberattacks in 2020/2021, we want to cover the basics of how to prevent your business from being victimized.
Here’s some tips on how to protect:
- Knowledge is power
With the constant stream of new information and developing technology, things can change quickly! Take the time every few months to research if any new cyberattacks trends or phishing schemes are trending so you can identify scams easily.
- Educate your staff
As a higher-up in the organization, you won’t be the only one who faces possible hacks — your employees will too! Give your employees a guide on things to look out for to prevent them from opening any unwanted links or downloading viruses.
- Upgrade your system
Without proper protection, you could be caught unaware. Make sure your organization has good security (antiviruses, spam filters, etc.) to make it hard for cyber criminals to break into the system.
- Separate Work/Personal Devices
When working from home, remember to keep work-related business on dedicated work laptops, which likely have security protection in place. When you access your organizations data on personal computers or devices, you risk someone hacking into your system and compromising your organization.
- Have a plan
Even the most protected organizations can be targeted by cyberattacks. In the event of a security breach, your organization should have a plan in place to act quickly. Here’s an example of things you should include in your plan.
With this knowledge in mind, you can begin to feel secure. Be prepared and stay safe!
